Besides the huge July 19th celebration, Amtrak is offering a 50% off sale for the travel on the Vermonter north of New Haven and entire route of the Ethan Allen — but you must book before the end of Thursday.

This bargain is NOT available at the regular Amtrak website. You have to go to https://www.amtrak.com/new-england-summer-sale to get these savings (before Thursday at midnight).

The special $1 fare on July 19th is available that day only between any two points within Vermont only. It also is not available on the regular website. You have to go to amtrak.com/vermont to get this fare.

The Vermonter on July 19th is currently 90% sold out between White River Junction and Brattleboro, so get your reservation ASAP for that one or consider a shorter trip to White River Junction or north, or from Rutland to Castleton.

The 50% off fare, which is a great bargain, is good for travel until September 6th.

While the 50% off sale on the Vermonter applies only to travel to more local and regional destinations from New Haven north, the Ethan Allen 50% off sale covers travel all the way to New York City from Vermont and points north of Albany. Vermonter passengers trying to maximize their bargain could get the 50% off fare to New Haven CT and change to Metro-North into the city.

Please remember that masks are still required aboard all trains, planes, buses and transit in the US.

This 50% off sale is smart marketing on Amtrak’s part. One would expect that after the covid dormancy, that we are all out of the habit of traveling and traveling by train. Everyone likes a bargain and we know that sales do work. Once a critical mass is back in the habit of traveling by train, they’ll come back and tell others and the train will continue as the success it has been.
