Tuesday JANUARY 4TH AT NOON, we have our next ZOOM FORUM, this time talking about best practices to market intercity trains. We’ll hear from Natalie Bougart, marketing manager for the Downeaaster train to Maine, which has seen ridership grow by 150% and Jim Mathews, CEO of the Rail Passengers Association who was also chair of Amtrak’ Passenger Advisory Committee. If we can market our trains even better, then the service is stronger at no more environmental footprint and more people benefit.

Did you know that railroads, when faced with particularly sharp curves, employ rail greasers? They are a real thing – they reduce friction. Low friction is what makes a rail more environmentally and fuel efficient than rubber tires.
In our highway oriented country, it would be easy for train service to vanish. Indeed, Vermont has lost its passenger trains before. They are back because of strong advocacy. Thank you. Thank you for being part of that history that led to and continues to support a more relaxing, more environmentally friendly mode for both freight and passengers and for our economy and economic vitality.
